SMC Commissioner urges residents to submit accurate information online

way2barak, July 30: ––The Silchar Municipal Corporation has appealed to residents within its municipal areas to actively participate in the Self Enumeration process under the upcoming Census, stressing that accurate and timely submission of household information will play a vital role in planning the city’s future infrastructure and public services.

Addressing citizens through a public message, the Commissioner of Silchar Municipal Corporation, Ankur Das IAS,who is also the Principal Census Officer of the Corporation extended greetings to distinguished citizens, members of the media, municipal officials and employees and the people of Silchar. The Commissioner described Self Enumeration as an important citizen-centric initiative that enables people to register their household and family details online at their convenience, making the census process faster, more accurate and transparent.

The Commissioner said the digital platform would allow residents to furnish their information directly, reducing the chances of errors while ensuring that the data collected accurately reflects the city’s demographic profile. The initiative, the Commissioner stated, would also make the census exercise more convenient for citizens by allowing them to complete the process from their preferred location within the stipulated period.

Calling upon every household to participate wholeheartedly, the Commissioner emphasised that providing complete and correct information is not merely a civic responsibility but an essential contribution to the city’s long-term development. Reliable census data, the Commissioner said, serves as the foundation for planning roads, drinking water supply, sanitation, healthcare, education and other essential public services, enabling authorities to prepare development programmes based on actual requirements.

Recognising that some residents may face difficulties in using digital platforms, the Commissioner advised them to seek assistance from family members, neighbours, volunteers or authorised government personnel. The Municipal Corporation, the Commissioner said, is committed to extending all possible support to ensure that no eligible resident is left out of the Self Enumeration process.

The Commissioner also appealed to citizens to complete the exercise within the notified timeframe, provide only accurate and verified information, refrain from believing or spreading rumours, and approach the designated government help centres or authorised officials whenever clarification or assistance is required.

Reiterating the importance of public participation, the Commissioner Ankur Das said a comprehensive and dependable database is the first step towards building a well-planned, cleaner and more citizen-friendly Silchar.

The Commissioner also expressed confidence that with the cooperation of residents, the Self Enumeration programme would be completed successfully, creating a strong foundation for better urban planning and improved civic services in the years ahead.
