Search operation on by NDRF; Bishnu still untraceable

Search operation is going on by NDRF in Sadarghat area of river Barak on Sunday, but Biswajit Kar (Bishnu) is still untraceable. A host of people including his family members and acquaintances crowded the banks of Barak in the hope of NDRF recovering Bishnu.

However, inspite of intensive search by NDRF no positive results yielded till 3.30 PM on Sunday. Expert divers too failed to trace his whereabouts.

Biswajit Kar (Bishnu), a cultural activist  went missing during the immersion of the idol of goddess Manasha in river Barak at Sadarghat on Saturday at around 5 PM. He slipped and fell into the river. Search operation was launched at once, but he could not be traced. Later on NDRF also joined search operation for few hours. However, due to onset of dusk, they could not continue the search operation.

On Sunday afternoon the work of providing bamboo fencing was going on in the banks of Barak in the immersion area of Sadarghat. BJP leader Dr. Rajdip Roy also went to the spot and took stock of the situation. He was seen to talk with NDRF officials.

The 50 year aged Bishnu Kar is a teacher at Yasin Ali Choudhury School. He is a resident of Ambicapatty, Silchar. A true gentleman by nature, he is loved and respected by all. He was an active member of Rupam Cultural Association and Samakal. His missing news has cast a spell of sorrow in the cultural arena of Silchar.

Citizens of the town have expressed deep concern about the lack of safety provisions in the place of idol immersion at Sadarghat. People expressed the view that District administration and Silchar Municipal Board should adopt more safety measures at the place of immersion.
