Biological Researches in combating critical human diseases : Science Talk in GC College

way2barak, Nov 20 : A Science Talk has been arranged by the Department of Zoology, Gurucharan College, Silchar on Biological Researches in combating critical human diseases. The Talk has been delivered by eminent scientist Dr Samir Bhattacharya, Former Director, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata and INSA Scientist. 76 UG students and faculty members participated in the said talk. Dr Bhattacharya presented his researches on medicinal plants and its role in effectively controlling critical human diseases. He stressed on the importance of using natural products from plants for easy and early control of various diseases.Diabetes Type 2 can be easily managed through proper use of those medicinal plants and their products. He put forward his findings on mitochondrial biogenesis , which is very much related to the control of Type 2 Diabetes. At the end of his presentation, there was students’ interaction. The students and faculty members participated actively in the interaction session. Dr Samir Bhattacharya encouraged the students for coming up with innovative ideas and can proceed on research careers.

The Science Talk session started with the Welcome Speech by Dr Nilendu Dhar, Head, Department of Zoology, Gurucharan College. He pointed out the need of such interactions of young minds with such eminent scientist, which will encourage the brilliant young minds into scientific research.

The session was conducted by Dr Debipreeta Dutta , Asst professor of the department. In this occasion , Dr Sanat Ranjan Dutta, Former, Head of the Zoology department, Cachar College was present and briefly discussed about Dr Bhattacharya’s long research works. Other facilities present in this occasion are Dr Seba Roy, Nazrana Sultana Begum, Dr Swarnali Bhattacharjee, Chandramita Boro, Saikatendu Deb Roy of Gurucharan College and Meghadeepa Deb of Cachar College.
Dr Bibhas Deb, Principal, Gurucharan College thanked Dr Samir Bhattacharya for his valuable presence in this college. He particularly highlighted his exceptional research contribution in the field of biological sciences and in combating critical human diseases. Non-teaching staffs Apu Chandra Das, Abhijit Das and Dipon Biswas contributed their part in organising the Science Talk.
The programme ended up with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr Debipreeta Dutta.
