Sepak Takraw Championship : Assam University won the Gold Medal

way2barak, March 13 : Assam University won the Gold Medal in the team event of the All India Inter-University Men’s Sepak Takraw Championship, which is currently being held at Assam University. The host team delivered an impressive performance, winning all three of their matches in the semifinal league to secure the top honour. Panjab University, Chandigarh finished second to claim the silver medal, while Manipur University, Imphal secured the bronze medal. Punjabi University, Patiala ended the event in fourth place.
The championship had earlier begun on Wednesday with a formal inaugural ceremony. Abdur Razzak, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Assam University attended the programme as the chief guest. Acting Registrar Anshuman Sen, along with members of the organising committee, was also present. The opening ceremony featured a colourful march-past by participating teams as well as a cultural programme.
On the occasion, former international Sepak Takraw player Rajen Singh, who had represented India in the past, was felicitated by the organisers.
Earlier, in the women’s tournament, the same four universities had shared all the medals across the three events. The men’s Regu and Quadrant events of the championship are still yet to be played. The tournament ends on Saturday.
