Former MP Sushmita Dev discharged

Sushmita Dev upset at the behaviour of Principal, SMCH

July 19: Former MP and President of All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev tested COVID-19 negative on Saturday and was released on Sunday. She was admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on 8 July after she tested positive. She was at SMCH for 11 days and was discharged on 12th day. She went home on Sunday in 108 ambulance

The swab sample of Sushmita Dev was collected on 7 July after she came in contact with COVID positive patient Rudra Narayan Gupta, Director of Green Heals Hospital. Her positive report came on 8 July, 2020.

Taking to her twitter handle, Sushmita Dev wrote, “I tested negative for COVID after 12 days. Thank U everyone for your support. I watched the doctors,nurses, staff & the microbiology team of the Silchar Medical college closely. They are very efficient despite the tough circumstances. I thank them for taking good care of me.” Responding to her tweet, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma replied, “Thank you, @ sushmita dev inc Please take rest for another 7 days at least.”

After her discharge, the former MP said, “If you regard Corona as a danger, then it will be dangerous for the country. Corona is curable. If you want to keep away from corona, then use face mask and maintain social distancing. The doctors and the entire department of Microbiology deserves special thanks for their round the clock service without any break. Just as our army is defending our borders, in the same way the doctors and Microbiologists are working here at present. The Microbiologists are doing 1500 to 2000 tests in a day. I thank them very much.”

Ms. Dev, however, said, “Yes, there was a confusion regarding my test report on 8 July. I stayed here at SMCH for 12 days but had no communication with Principal of the Silchar Medical. I thank each and every doctor and nurse who are treating not only me but all COVID patients.” She also said to the people, “Our strength is our doctors and we will have to stand by our doctors and that is very important.”

While coming out of SMCH, Sushmita Dev, however, said to the Superintendent that she felt upset on the issue that the Principal of SMCH did not call her, neither did he apologised for the miscommunication. She said, “We all her human beings and so some mistakes do occur, but he could have apologised.”

When asked about Himanta Biswa Sarma’s appeal for donating plasma by patients who got cured of coronavisrus, Sushmita Dev said, “Definitely. If my plasma come of help for the treatment of any patients, I will gladly give it.”
