COVID-19 count on Thursday reached 880 with 97 single day jump in numbers
May 28: Indeed another frightening day for Assam in the context of COVID-19 scenario in the state. A total of 97 COVID-19 cases were reported from Assam on 28 May. The numbers are now increasing in the state by leaps and bounds. From one positive case in 31 March, it has now gone upto 880. A hundred cases a day seems to have become the norm of the day. The spike in the numbers is primarily because of the persons who are now entering Assam from other states with the relaxation in lockdown guidelines.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state was 783 on 27 May. But on 28 May, the numbers went on increasing almost the whole day and reached 880. Out of this, there are 770 active cases in the state. All eyes seemed to be on the twitter page of State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Here is the complete sequence of how the positive cases were reported on 28 May.
- 28 May. 10.50 AM : 15 new cases: 11 Kamrup Metro, 3 Dibrugarh, 1 Lakhimpur.
- 28 May, 02.50 PM : 33 new cases: 10 Nagaon, 8 Kamrup-M, 7 Cachar, 1 each Hojai/Dima Hasao, 2 each Karimganj/Hailakandi, 2 yet to be ascertained.
- 28 May, 06.20 PM : 25 new cases: 13 Kamrup Metro, 4 Cachar, 3 Dhemaji, 3 Barpeta, 2 Kokrajhar.
- 28 May, 11.55 PM : 24 new cases: 11 Goalpara, 3 Nalbari, 3 Tinsukia, 2 Dibrugarh, 1 each from Kamrup, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong & Dhubri, 1 yet to be to ascertained.
However, on Thursday, 16 patients were also discharged. Confirming this State Health Minister, Dr. himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Always a delight to see smiles! Was present at MMCH with @Pijush_hazarika during discharge of 15 brave-hearts, including Tilak Deka (Lab Technician at MMCH) who got infected on line of duty. They all fought a spirited battle & won! We shall all win. Have heart and faith.”
In view of the spike of positive cases of novel coronavirus, the state government has reiterated the stand of implementing the guidelines of quarantine norms stringently, while stating that the people coming from outside will be sent for strict quarantine. Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, said that the quarantine rules should have to obeyed with all sincerity.
