Rai reviews market management, road project and healthcare services

way2barak, July 17: Minister for Food and Public distribution Housing and urban affairs, Consumer affairs and Cooperation, Kaushik Rai on Friday undertook a series of inspections and review meetings in Silchar to assess market management, road infrastructure, healthcare services and other public service-related issues. During the daylong programme, the Minister interacted with traders, reviewed ongoing and proposed development initiatives, and chaired an important administrative meeting at the District Commissioner’s Office.

The Minister began the day with a visit to Fatak Bazar where he held discussions with representatives of the Silchar Foodgrains Merchants’ Association and the Fatak Bazar Committee. The meeting focused on the overall condition of the market, issues faced by traders, civic amenities, sanitation, traffic management and other matters relating to public convenience. Discussions were also held on measures to make the market more organised, clean and citizen friendly through coordinated efforts involving the administration, traders and other stakeholders.

The programme was attended by District Commissioner, Cachar, Rahul Kumar Gupta, Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Sanjeev Kumar Saikia, Director, Municipal Administration, Tonkeshwar Das, Commissioner, Silchar Municipal Corporation, Ankur Das, President of the Silchar Foodgrains Merchants’ Association, Pranab Paul Choudhury and other distinguished members of the business community.

Following the market visit, the Minister, accompanied by District Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta, Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Saikia, officials of the Silchar Public Works (Roads) Division and representatives of Jhandu Construction carried out a joint site inspection of the proposed four-lane road from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) to Birbal Bazar.

During the inspection, the proposed alignment of the four-lane road was examined and various technical and site-specific issues relating to the project were reviewed in detail. The Minister held discussions with the concerned departmental officials and representatives of the executing agency regarding construction planning and project implementation. Necessary directions were issued to ensure timely commencement of the work and expeditious execution of the project.

It’s noteworthy to mention here that the proposed four-lane road is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Silchar Medical College and Hospital and the city.

The Minister thereafter visited Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) to review healthcare services, patient amenities and hospital administration. He held discussions with the concerned authorities and reviewed measures for further improving healthcare delivery and public convenience within the hospital campus.

During the review, the Minister directed the removal of commercial vehicles and private ambulances from inside the hospital premises to facilitate smooth movement of emergency services. He also instructed the authorities to install proper directional signages at different locations across the hospital campus for the convenience of patients and visitors.

Directions were also issued for earmarking dedicated parking spaces for vehicles belonging to attendants of admitted patients. The Minister also reviewed the existing biomedical waste disposal mechanism and instructed the authorities to establish an efficient Biomedical Waste (BMW) Management System to ensure scientific disposal of biomedical waste generated by the hospital.

The review meeting at SMCH was attended by District Commissioner, Rahul Kumar Gupta, Superintendent of Police, Sanjeev Kumar Saikia, Principal, Silchar Medical College, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Superintendent, SMCH, Dr. Bikash Sandilya and other senior officials.

Later in the afternoon, The Minister also participated in a review meeting on the progress and implementation of various developmental projects being undertaken by the Silchar Municipal Corporation. The meeting reviewed the status of ongoing projects, their timely execution and measures required to further improve civic infrastructure and public services in the city.

Detailed discussions were held on enhancing the quality of municipal services, strengthening urban infrastructure, improving cleanliness, solid waste management and sanitation, as well as issues relating to drinking water supply, drainage and road development. Minister Kaushik Rai also directed the officials to take various measures required for the convenience and welfare of the citizens and directed the concerned departments to ensure effective implementation of the projects within the stipulated timelines.

The Minister emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts among all implementing agencies to ensure that development works are completed efficiently and public services are delivered in a timely manner. He also reviewed the progress of ongoing initiatives and issued necessary directions to the concerned officials for expediting the works.

While in his concluding remarks Minister Kaushik Rai said “The Government of Assam under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, continues to accord priority to transforming Silchar into a modern, clean and citizen-friendly city through sustained investments in urban infrastructure and civic amenities.
