Rahul Gandhi assures to revive HPC Paper Mills if Congress voted to power
February 26: BJP government has snatched away the Paper Mills from your hands. Congress party will restore it to you. They have stopped the industrial development and snatched away your livelihood. The youth of Assam has received a great blow due to this. We again promise you to give employment. We will revive the two Paper Mills of Jagi Road and Cachar. This was the crux of what Congress President Rahul Gandhi said while addressing an election rally at Khanapara on Tuesday.
Earlier during the day, Paper Mill Employees Union handed over a memorandum to Rul Gandhi regarding revival of the HPC Paper Mills in Assam. Present during the occasion were Manobendra Chakraborty, Convenor of HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee, Silchar MP Susmita Dev, Congress leaders Ripun Bora, Debabrata Saikia, Harish Rawat among others.
Rahul Gandhi said that BJP government also did away with the Northeast Industrial Policy which was introduced to promote industries and create jobs in the region. He also assured to restore the special status for Assam scrapped by the BJP government in 2015.
Regarding the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Congress President said that Congress will ensure that no Indian citizen will be excluded from NRC if it voted to power. He further said, “Shoddy implementation of NRC, use of NRC officials for campaigning purposes & the utter disregard for the thousands of Indian families that have been excluded from NRC, proves that the Modi govt. is only using this exercise for political purposes. We will ensure that no Indian will be left out of NRC.”
