Radhamadhab College celebrates National Voters Day

Jan. 25: National Voters Day was celebrated by Radhamadhab College, Silchar (RMC) on Monday. A programme in this connection was organised by the Department of Political Science in collaboration with Games & Cultural Cell of RMC. At the outset, Dr. Bidhan Barman, Assistant Professor of the Department of Political Science of the College explained the objective of National Voters Day. He said, “The Election Commission was founded in 1950 on this day. The occasion was first celebrated in 2011.”

Speaking during the occasion, Dr. Debasish Roy, Principal of the College said, “The National Voters Day ceremony is aimed at increasing voter enrollment, with special focus on new voters. The celebrations include felicitating new voters and handing them their Elector Photo Identity Cards.” Others who spoke during the occasion are Dr. Rahul Chakraborty- Head, Deptt of Bengali, Dr. Ruma Nath Choudhury- Head, Department of Philosophy and Arundhuti Dutta Choudhury- Head, Department of English. All the speakers highlighted the importance of exercising their franchise to make the democracy more vibrant.

This year’s theme is “Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed”. One focus this year is highlighting the EC’s feat of running elections safely during the pandemic.
