Protesters threaten to block all route to Mizoram, effigy of CM Mizoram burnt in Silchar
July 28: The atrocities perpetrated upon Assam Police by Mizo forces along with the Mizo armed miscreants on last Monday which led to death of six policemen and several injured was severely resented by the people of three districts of Barak Valley. Protest movements are being organised at several parts of the valley. On Wednesday, when entire Barak was observing a Bandh called by Barak Democratic Front, students, non-political organisations and several individuals led a protest rally from Rangirkhari point and went upto the gate of Mizoram Circuit House at Sonai Sonai Road, Silchar.
Slogans against the violent Mizo forces rented the entire atmosphere. Several banners were held by the youths during the protest rally which stated “Mizoram Go Back. Boycott Mizos, Killer of Assam Jawans,” “Shame on Mizoram Police,” “Mizoram you are a part of India. Stop behaving like a rogue state,”CM Mizoram shame on you” etc. Slogans were also raised against the Mizos and Mizoram government.
In loud voice, they shouted, “Mizo Police Go Back”, “Mizo aggressors go back,” “We won’t forget the sacrifice made by Assam Police” etc. Later on, they also burnt effigy of Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga.

Speaking on the occasion on behalf of the students, Rohit Chanda said, “We strongly condemn the illegal and brutal activities carried out by Mizoram. They are involved in cold blooded murder of our policemen. We won’t be tolerating such activities. If such type of inhuman atrocities are not stopped by Mizoram government, we will be bound to resort to democratic movement and block all roads leading to Mizoram. They are the infiltrators encroaching upon the territory of Assam. We urge upon our state government to give a befitting reply to Mizoram.”
Present during the protest demonstration were students from various colleges like, Rohit Chanda, Snehal chakraborty, Subhas choudhury, Satyayan Dey, Bishal Nath among others. Individuals and many members of non-political organisations like Joydeep Chakraborty, Basudev Sharma, Advocate Rajib Nath, Santanu Sutradhar, Partha Das were present among others.
