Protest against Mizo aggression in Hailakandi, railway tracks leading to Bhairabi uprooted
July 27: As an aftermath of the firing incident at Assam- Mizoram border in which 5 Assam Police jawans were killed and around 60 injured, protest movements were launched in different parts of Barak Valley. The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti has called for an economic blockade against Mizoram in protest of the shooting incident. On Tuesday, they staged demonstrations at Jamira and Mamudpur stations in Hailakandi district of Assam.
Many individuals of the area also joined this protest movement. However, a few among them started uprooting the railway tracks. Hailakandi SP Ramandeep Kaur informed that police forces were immediately sent to the spot who dispersed the mob from the tracks.
Informing this, Railway Area Manager Deepak Kumar Murmu said that the track was badly damaged. As such, train movement in the entire Badarpur-Bhairabi section has been suspended. It needs mention here that Bhairabi is the only station in Mizoram to pass through Hailakandi district of Assam.
Further, various other organisations of Hailakandi district also staged protest at Krishnapur of Katlicherra. One of the deceased Assam police jawan killed at Assam Mizoram border on Monday belongs to that village.
