April 14: Lok Sabha Elections, the greatest festival of Indian democracy is on the cards. Campaigning is going on in full swing. There is also no dearth of star campaigners visiting different constituencies and campaigning for their party candidate. On Saturday evening, State Finance Minister & BJP heavy weight leader Himanta Biswa Sharma participated in a road show at Silchar to garner votes for the party candidate Dr. Rajdeep Roy. Within 15 hours of BJPs road show, Congress is ready with its own road show where Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi will participate.
Priyanka Gandhi was received at Silchar airport by Sushmita Dev, Harish Rawat, Ripun Bora, Ajit Singh, Sanjib Roy among others. On the way to Silchar town from the airport, Priyanka went to Kachakanti Temple at Udharbond and offered puja. As per Congress sources, the road show of Priyanka Gandhi will begin from near Cachar Club. The rally will go through all the major parts of the town and will end at National Highway Point near the statue of Chittaranjan Das.
Since 10 in the morning on Sunday, crowd started to assemble near Cachar Club to catch a glimpse of Priyanka. After Himanta’s high voltage road show on Saturday, the Congress is also learnt to have geared up to make their road show a success. Whatever may be the outcome, the fact remains that Silchar is able to witness high decibel music and loud slogans once again today.
It needs mention here that in the last Parliamentary Elections held in 2014 Sushmita Dev of Congress defeated BJP’s veteran leader Kabindra Purkayastha and bagged the prestigious Silchar seat. This time Sushmita will fight against Dr. Rajdip Roy of BJP. Both of them faced each other during Assembly Election of 2009 when Dr. Rajdip Roy faced defeat. However, both of them are equally confident this year to make it to the finishing point.
