HPC employees launch ‘Mein Bhi Berojgar’ campaign as against BJPs ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’

April 14: HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee launched a unique demonstration during the ongoing Lok Sabha Election campaigning. In a social media post, Manabendra Chakraborty, Chief Convenor of the Action Committee launched ‘Main Bhi Berojgar’ campaign against the present political dispensation in the centre and the state.

While production at Cachar Paper Mill, Panchgram stopped on 20 October, 2015, the Nagaon Paper Mill at Jagiroad was closed on 13 March, 2017. Manabendra Chkraborty wrote: “We are at The Court of Respected Citizens with our appeal to extend Justice by awarding befitting reply to those who betrayed the People of Barak & Brahmaputra valley by dishonouring Commitment of Reviving HPC Paper Mills & imposing 51 Premature deaths of Workers including enforcement of two lacs unemployments.”

Manabendra Chakraborty, Chief Convenor of the Action Committee said that both PM Modi and Sarbananda Sonowal has given many assurances but till now the truth of any such assurances has not been ascertained. Now, the Action Committee has made a fervent appeal to all the Citizens of Barak Valley, including  intellectuals, NGO’s, Students Organizations, Clubs, Political parties irrespective of differences to come forward & support their cause.

The Action committee held several meetings at various places and distributed leaflets against the injustice meted out to them. They appealed that the employees of the two paper mills in Assam were without salaries more than two years. 51 of its employees died only due to the apathy of the government and appealed to all to come forward and pressurise the government for the revival of the mills.
