Ray of Hope: Global recovery 20.90%, India’s recovery 9.38%

March 29: When the entire world is captivated in the clutches of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19), there seems to have been negativity worldwide. The procession of COVID-19 positive cases seems to be ever increasing with the procession of death continuing unabated. It’s in this grim scenario, a ray of hope could be found. As it is said, “Every cloud has a silver lining”, similarly though small in terms of percentage, yet the recovery cases from the fatal coronavirus is a think to reckon.

This would give a positive message that being infected by COVID-19 does not mean certain death. In the world context, on Sunday (9.30 PM), the total coronavirus infected people stood at 6,78,857 (as per COVID-19 Tracker, www.bing.com/covid). Though the numbers are increasing, but at the same time, the numbers of persons recovering from the deadly disease is also increasing. Out of the total of 6,78,857 corona positive cases, 1,41,916 persons have recovered till now. This means, as of now, 20.90% people have recovered globally. The global death data of 31,776 should not be too scary given the almost 21 percent of recovery rate. Well, this is indeed a healthy sign inspite of all the gloom surrounding us at present.

Now, in the Indian context, a total of 1024 persons were reported to be corona infected on Sunday (9.30 PM). Out of 1024 cases, 96 persons have recovered till now. A total of 27 corona infected patients died in India. That means, India’s recovery rate stands at 9.38%. Though in comparison to the global recovery rate, the scenario of India is grim, yet it seems that effective obeying of lockdown measures will definitely have a positive impact on the figures.

Data based on as per COVID-19 Tracker, Sunday, 9.30 PM

The graphical representation further reveals that Iran has the more number of recovery cases. In Iran, there were 38,309 total confirmed cases, out of which 12,391 of them have recovered. Spain ranks 2nd in the recovery chart with 14,707 persons recovered out of total confirmed cases of 78,799. Next comes, France, where out of total of 37,611 corona patients, 5700 have recovered. The 4th position in recovery parameters is occupied by Italy, where out of 97,689 cases, 13,030 have recovered. In the global context, India’s recovery rate is not bad, as it occupies the 5th position. Germany ranks 5th in the chart with 5,024 recovery cases out of 60,887 total cases. However, the recovery rates of USA and UK is very negligible. This is primarily because of the fact that more positive cases in these countries were reported in the last few days.

It may be argued that the recovery percentage is less. But on the contrary, it could be asserted that, even if it is less, but it is not zero. There is hope. India’s trajectory is flatter than that of the US, which is the new global epicentre of Covid-19, with confirmed cases surpassing China. Yet, given the volatility in India’s daily data over the past few days, it is too early to say whether the current trajectory will sustain, rise, or flatten in the coming days. Observing lockdown in letter and spirit seems to be the only way now at hand to stop the further spread of the deadly coronavirus.
