Assam proposed centre to give up red, orange & green zone system, says Himanta Biswa

May 14: While communicating with the central government, Assam has proposed to end the system of classifying districts as red, orange or green and rather go in for declaration of containment zone and buffer zone. This was stated by State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma while replying to a query of a newsman during a press briefing held by him at NHM office in Guwahati on Thursday night.

The minister further said that declaring an entire district as red or orange zone is of no avail, rather containment zone should be declared from where the infection is coming. He also stated that declaring an entire zone as red would pose a great challenge to the economic activities therein. Himanta said, “Assam government has suggested the centre to stop classifying districts as red, orange and green.” He also said that such type of classification also increases confusion among the people and media and all start calling government officials just to know the colour of their district, which hampers normal functioning.
