No lockdown or new restrictions or fresh SOP in state as hospitalisation is less: CM Assam

Jan. 19: There has been widespread panic among the people of Assam regarding imposition of lockdown or more stringent regulations after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. However, post-Cabinet meeting in Haflong, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing informed that the state government would not issue any new SOP or new restrictions in the state because the rate of hospitalisation is very less in Assam.

CM Dr Sarma said, “Though the number of Covid cases has increased a lot, yet the number of hospitalisations is still quite less in the state. Till now, many seats are lying vacant in various hospitals of the state for treatment of Covid patients. So at this moment, the state government will not issue any fresh restrictions at this stage apart from some minor issues which will be addressed by the health department.” He also stated that at present the rate of hospitalisation in Assam is only 12 percent. So once if this figure goes up, only then the government may think of imposing restrictions.
