New Covid SOP: All earlier restrictions retained in Cachar till 4 July; total containment in 247 areas of Assam

Inter-district travel remains prohibited throughout Assam

June 26: State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta addressed a press conference on Friday evening at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati, wherein he announced new Covid-19 guidelines to be implemented in Assam from 27 June, 2021 and will be in place for a week till 4 July. The decisions were arrived at on the basis of Covid cases in the districts of Assam for the last seven days.

“We took into account those areas where more than 10 persons were infected. As such, we have identified 247 such areas in the state where the cases of Covid-19 have spread fast. Further, there are 4,581 such areas in Assam, where less than 10 persons were infected on an average in last seven days. The Deputy Commissioner’s were entrusted the responsibility of declaring total containment zones in those 247 areas from Monday onwards. Moreover, strict vigilance will be ensured in the rest 4,581 areas,” said the Health Minister.

The minister further said that testing and vaccination should be enhanced in all these earmarked areas. He also said that the infection has spread vigorously in four districts of Assam, which are, Biswanath, Morigaon, Golaghat and Goalpara. Total containment will be imposed in Biswanath, Morigaon and Goalpara from Monday morning onwards for a week. As regards Golaghat, the minister said that total containment will be declared only in Bokaghat sub-division of this district. Only essential services will be allowed to operate in these districts.

As regards Kamrup Metro, the minister announced certain relaxations. Shops and business establishments in Kamrup metro will be open till 3 PM and Covid curfew will begin from 4 PM. Again, in Hailakandi district too, shops will also remain open till 3 PM and there too Covid curfew will start at 4 PM. For rest of the districts, including Cachar and Karimganj, shops and markets will continue to remain open till 12 noon and the Covid curfew will start at 1 PM.

The Minister further said that those who were administered both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine need not be tested at airport and railway stations.
