Barak Valley registers 157 positive cases on Wednesday

July 29: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 157 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 135 positive cases. Apart from this, 61 patients were cured and discharged from across the valley on Wednesday.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 104 positive cases (It was 90 on Tuesday)
  • Karimganj: 25 positive cases (It was 26 on Tuesday)
  • Hailakandi: 28 positive cases (It was 19 on Tuesday)

With 104 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Tuesday, Cachar recorded a total of 1509 cases of coronavirus as of now. Out of the 104 persons detected coronavirus positive on Wednesday, six of them are from the Fire Service office in Silchar. Many tested positive during the day through contact tracing who does not have any travel history. Apart from the fire service staff, some police personnel were also detected as COVID-19 positive. Three persons were also tested positive during the day from Fatak Bazar area of Silchar. Six more tested positive from Jirighat. A 2-day old baby from Nivedita Nari Sangstha, Silchar also tested positive on Wednesday.

Further, among others, a doctor in Dermatology Department of SMCH also tested positive on Wednesday. He was detected through contact tracing and is asymptomatic. Dr. Dawipayan Deb (26) from Sonai Road also tested positive. He is asymptomatic. he came in direct contact with a high risk lab confirmed case. He too is asymptomatic. In the 4th slot, Dr. Shabir Ahmed Choudhury (31) from new PG Hostel of SMCH also tested positive.

Bimal Paul (78) from Central Road, Silchar who was admitted at SMCH after he was detected corona positive died on Tuesday afternoon. His body was cremated at Silchar crematorium of Wednesday night. This led to a great hue and cry among the residents of the area. However, the crowd was convinced by Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli and Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul.

On Wednesday, 28 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 889. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 28 positive cases on Wednesday, 19 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). 449 swab results turned out to be negative. Altogether A total of 114 cases have been found positive under RAT so far with scores of them without travel history. Another SBI employee of Hailakandi branch and an employee of Hailakandi Treasury have been tested corona positive under RAT. Meanwhile, the last rites of a woman, who was COVID-19 positive, and died due to complicacies at the time of delivery at SMC&H on Tuesday were carried out at the College Road crematorium in Hailakandi town as per COVID-19 protocols relating to disposal of dead body of a COVID victim on Wednesday evening.

Karimganj district recorded 25 COVID-19 positive cases on Wednesday, out of which there were 2 employees of the office of the Deputy Commissioner. DC Karimganj, himself, however, tested negative.

Apart from the valley, a total of 1348 persons tested positive in Assam on Wednesdayday, thereby taking the state tally to 36,295. As of now, there are 8368 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1214 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 27,832 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 4 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 92. The recovery rate in Assam has gone upto 76.77 percent.
