National Mathematics Day to be celebrated in Cachar at GC College on 22 December

Dec. 15: In order to commemorate the birthday of the legendary Indian great mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, the National Mathematics Day is celebrated on 22 December every year throughout the country. In order to pay homage to such an unparall prodigious Indian mathematician, Assam Academy of Mathematics, Cachar, Silchar in association with Dept. of Mathematics, Gurucharan College, Silchar has been celebrating this day since its inception to to popularise the significance of Mathematics in day to day life amongst the students of this Valley.

It’s noteworthy that this year, the 134th birth anniversary of such a great doyen will also be celebrated in a befitting manner by Assam Academy of Mathematics, Cachar, Silchar in association with Gurucharan College, Silchar on 22 December, 2021 at Conference Hall of G C College, Silchar.  A three days long programme will be held in this connection.

While interacting with Subrata Roy, an Executive Committee Member of Assam Academy of Mathematics, Silchar, he said, ‘’We celebrate the National Mathematics Day every year in Silchar. This year, a three-day ‘Mathematics Olympiad Orientation Workshop’ will be held from 22 to 24 December, 2021 at G C College, Silchar where Prof. Shanta Laishram from Indian Statistical Institute of New Delhi will be the Chief Guest. He will also be one of the resource persons of this three-day workshop. Apart from being an eminent mathematician of India, Prof. Shanta Laishram is also the Deputy National Coordinator of the Mathematical Olympiad program appointed by the National Board for Higher Mathematics, Govt. of India. This free of cost mathematical workshop will aim to introduce students to the art of solving mathematical problems and expose them discernibly to Olympiad level mathematics.’’

On asking Dr. Debashish Sharma, the District Secretary of AAM, Silchar as well as the Chief Coordinator of this event, further added, ‘’The participants will surely be able to get a glimpse of the beauty of mathematical topics like Number Theory, Combinatorics, and Functional Equations, etc. The students who will be appearing for the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) 2021 will be held on 9 January, 2022 will find this workshop especially beneficial. However, only the students from class 8 to TDC students of Mathematics of this region can join in this workshop. Students willing to participate shall have to fill up a prescribed format compulsorily which is available with the organising committee.’’

Apart from Prof. Laishram, Prof. Uday Shankar Chakroborty, Dept of Mathematics, Assam University, Silchar, Dr. Debashish Sharma, Lecturer of Dept. of Mathematics of G C College and Sri Rahul Paul will also be the resource persons of that workshop. On 24 December, the day of valedictory session, the certificate of participation will be given to all the participants of the workshop. Debabrata Sharma, New Oxford School, Silchar, and Sajal Kanti Choudhury, Adhar Chand H S School, Silchar will be felicitated by the organising committee on 22 Dec, 2021 for their outstanding contribution in the field of Mathematics.
