MNF leader Zoramthanga sworn in as Mizoram CM
December 15: Leader of Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoramthanga took oath as the Chief Minister (CM) of Mizoram on Saturday after the party swept the Assembly elections in the state. Governor Kummanan Rajasekharan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Zoramthanga at a programme at the Raj Bhavan in state capital Aizawl. The MNF president took the oath in Mizo language.
This is Zoramthanga’s third innings as the CM; he held the position twice between 1998 to 2008. The MNF defeated Congress which has been in power in Mizoram for two terms under Lal Thanawala. The Grand Old Party was relegated to the third spot, winning only five seats in the 40-member Legislative Assembly. The MNF had swept the November 28 polls by bagging 26 of the 40 seats. The BJP for the first time won one seat in the Tuichawng constituency in the Chakma Autonomous District Council.
