Dist BJP writes to CM Assam, demands holding of Grade III & IV exams in Hailakandi

Aug. 23: Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) has been conducting the Grade III and Grade IV written examinations. The 1st phase of the exams were held on 21 August. The next phase will be held on 28 August, whereas the final phase will take place on 11 September. In Barak Valley, the said examinations were conducted only in Cachar District. Candidates from Hailakandi and Karimganj had to appear in the examination centres in Cachar district.

As per the available data, 73,376 candidates were to appear in 118 examination centres in Cachar. However, it was found that in the first shift 4,445 candidates were absent, whereas, 1,083 were absent in the 2nd shift. It was alleged by many that due to extreme traffic congestion on the day of exam, many candidates from far flung areas in Hailakandi and Karimganj district could not reach the respective exam centres in Cachar district.

It is in this backdrop that, Swapan Bhattacharjee, President of Hailakandi District BJP gave a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner on 22 August. In the said memorandum, District BJP demanded to conduct the 2nd phase exam, supposed to be held on 28 August should be held in centres located in Hailakandi instead of Cachar. This he wrote will be of immense help as candidates need not have to face traffic congestion and may appear smoothly in the exam without any fear of travelling too far or getting late.
