Lovely gesture: Assam Police surprises 78-year-old man with sweets, birthday hats & songs

May 5: The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic has indeed been a source of immense tension for the people at large. The number of rising cases of positive patients, death surging up, economic activities halted, difficulties of people stranded in other states, issue of migrant labourers etc. are of course the negative sides of the pandemic. However, there are certain positive and humane facets of COVID-19 pandemic that has come to the forefront.
The nationwide lockdown has separated many families as people who went out for treatment, tour, office & business purposes are now stranded far away from their home towns leaving back their near and dear ones alone. There are numerous such instances around us. For 78-year-old Kamala Prasad Agarwal, of Nagaon, it was one such surprise of his life time. His family members along with his wife got stranded in Bangalore and Delhi due to lockdown.
Kamala Prasad Agarwal’s 78th birthday was on 4 May. However, being alone and worried about his family members stranded outside, he himself forgot that he was born on this day. He was surprised by a team of 8 Assam Police personnel knocking at his gate. Hardly, could he imagine that the greatest surprise of his wife awaited for him. It was then that the police officers both male and female started singing “Happy Birthday to you Uncle.” Agarwal was so overpowered by emotion, that tears started rolling down from his eyes in a sense of gratitude towards the Assam Police.

The police team carried placards where messages ‘I am your son’ and ‘I am your daughter’ were written. The policeman could be heard in a video saying, “Uncle, we cannot manage cake, but we have brought for you sweets, birthday hats and music. Taking to its official twitter handle, Assam Police posted the video of the unique birthday celebration and wrote, “A beautiful and moving surprise! When Nagaon Police knocked the door of Shri KP Agarwal to wish him on his 78th Birthday, as his family members were not around due to the #Lockdown. May today & all of your days be amazing. Happy Birthday!!”

A lady police officer put on a birthday hat on the head of 78-year old Agarwal, others put sweets in his mouth. A colourful poster wherein birthday message written on it was also flashed. Till the filing of this report of Tuesday, the post of Assam Police was shared 982 times in their Facebook Page. In twitter, the post was viewed by more than 11,000 people. There was also a flood of comments by netizens appreciating the humane move of the men in uniform. This is ofcourse, the other side of the pandemic. Well done, Assam Police.
