Lockdown extended in Odisha till 30 April, educational institutions shut till 17 June
April 9: Odisha becomes the 1st Indian state to extend lockdown till 30 April, 2020. Besides, all the educational institutions, including schools and colleges in the State will continue to remain closed till June 17. This was informed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday.
The Odisha CM said: “In view of the situation arising out of COVID-19, the state government today decided to extend the lockdown period till April 30.” The state cabinet has also given a proposal to Centre for extension of 21-day nationwide lockdown till April 30 to tackle the spread of COVID-19 in the country, he added. The CM also informed that the State government has suggested the Union Government to shut down rail and air services till April 30.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s official figures on April 9, Odisha has 42 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. This number includes one patient who succumbed to the infection and two individuals who recovered.
