Langlachhara village in Udharbond declared as Jalgram; Jal Shakti Kendra set up
Nov. 1: An inventive initiative was taken by the District Administration, Cachar in collaboration with the Transformation and Development Branch, Soil Conservation, Fishery and Water Resource Departments related to declaration of the “Jal Shakti Kendra” along with the “Jal Gram” under Udharbond Constituency of Cachar District on Monday.
In this connection, a programme was held at the auditorium of the Block Development Office, Udharbond, which was graced among others by Mihir Kanti Shome- MLA Udharbond, Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, and Rajib Roy, District Development Commissioner, Cachar. Three projects – Usage of Perennial Source, Construction of RCC Check Dam along with a Farm Pond, Percolation Tank, three drinking water tanks, construction of sluice for additional opening over Barnonbodi Khal and Paddle Wheel Aerator were taken up.
Addressing the gathering, DC Keerthi Jalli said, “The source of drinking water is declining at present. At the same time, water is being polluted due to various reasons. But there is no shortage of rain water. So rain water can be collected and stored for use in agricultural purposes. On the other hand, this water can be purified in different ways to make it fit for drinking.”
She repeatedly emphasized on rain water conservation in her speech. and assured that more such projects would be taken up in near future. The Deputy Commissioner also asked everyone to stop wasting water by adopting this method. Referring to the declaration of Jalgram in Langlachhara tea garden, DC Jalli said a plan would be soon taken up to save water from the hills and cultivate fish by digging ponds.
Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome expressing happiness on declaring Langlachhara village as Jalgram, said that the area is in a tea garden locate a remote hilly part. Due to lack of water source in the area, it was difficult to get potable water, but the water that falls from the hills is gradually being processed and pumped to the houses of the people in the area. On the other hand, water is being used to reach the area using solar energy. As a result, there is no shortage of pure water over there. He also expressed gratitude to the engineers who were involved in this project.
Detailed information, relevant documents and photographs have been preserved securely at the Block Development Office, Udharbond as it has been recognised as “Jai Shakti Kendra”. The Block Development Officer of the concerned Block has been assigned as the Nodal Officer of this project. Besides, 2 Jal Mitras were awarded in the said programme who will be held responsible for monitoring the availability of water in the area and door-to-door visit to address any hiccups in the process.
