JEE Proxy Scam: Prime accused nabbed by Assam Police

Nov. 2: Assam Police on Monday arrested Bhargav Deka, the prime accused in the JEE Exam Scam. Deka is  the owner of Guwahati-based coaching institute Global Edu Light. So far, 7 persons have been arrested in connection with the JEE proxy scam, including the candidate, his father, two TCS employees and an invigilator.

Those arrested till now apart from Bhargav Deka are Dr. Jyotirmoy Das, Neel Nakhatra Das, Hemendra Nath Sarma, Pranjal Kalita and Hirukamal Pathak and Kakoli Bezbaruah. As per sources, the investigation is on and some more names may come out to be involved in the scam.

The incident came to light after an FIR was filed by one Mitradev Sharma on 23 October, alleging that the candidate who scored 99.8 percent in the JEE (Mains) did not take the test, but used a proxy to do so on his behalf.
