Innovative solution adopted by district administration to solve depleting ground water level
কমে যাওয়া ভুগর্ভস্থ জলস্তর মোকাবিলায় উদ্ভাবনী পদক্ষেপ নিয়েছে জেলা প্রশাসন

November 29: Depleting ground water levels across the country has become a major issue of the decade. Inspired by Jal Shakti Abhiyan, ‘Vidyalaya Jal Surakshan Prakalpa’ was initiated by District Administration of Hailakandi. The project was taken in hand to lessen the depletion of ground water level.

The project has been completed in 23 schools resulting in savings of 22700 litres per month and is underway in other schools. DC Hailakandi, Keerthi Jalli inaugurated the completed project at Shahbad HE and ME School along with ADC (Education) Ranadip Dam, SSA Engineer, Arijit Chakraborty and others.

Speaking during the occasion, DC J. Keerthi said, “We have modified the existing Tube wells in a way that the excess unused water goes into a soak pit. Tube well once pumped gives excess water than needed which runs down the surface. As the district has clayey soil, this water is not soaked inside and hence the water harvesting pit here can be of immense help. It was initiated in schools for children to understand and value each drop and to carry forward the message as future citizens of the country. With slight modification, it has been found that around 1000 litres of water is saved whilst usage during handwash, utensil wash, mid day meal preparation, toilet usage, drinking etc (not counting villagers usage of tube well which is usually seen).”

Later on while interaction, DC Hailakandi requested all to adopt this design in order to ensure that our planet earth never runs out of water.
