Indian Parliament congratulates Hima Das

On the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Indian Parliament, both the treasury and opposition benches congratulated Hima Das by thumping the desks. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan read out the letter of congratulation addressed to Hima Das.

She said that Hima Das, a 18 year old Assamese girl is the first one from India to win gold in Junior World Athletics Championship which was held in Finland. Hima has earned this laurel by completing 400 meters race in just 51.46 seconds. The Speaker further said that this achievement was more special because Hima Das comes from a very poor rural family of Nagaon district in Assam. Her father is a poor farmer. Hima’s victory was termed as the victory of women power.
