India Space Week Celebrated at Assam University

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১৮ আগস্ট : ভারত মহাকাশ সপ্তাহ পালনের অঙ্গ হিসেবে ও ইসরোর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ড. বিক্রম সারাভাইয়ের জন্মবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের উদ্যোগে মহাকাশ বিজ্ঞানের ওপর এক বিশেষ বক্তৃতার আয়োজন করা হয়। বিভাগীয় মেঘনাদ সাহা সম্মেলনে কক্ষে আয়োজিত এই অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ বক্তৃতা প্রদান করেন প্রখ্যাত জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানী তথা বিভাগীয় বরিষ্ঠ অধ্যাপক অশোক কুমার সেন।

‘ধূমকেতুতে মহাকাশ অভিযান’ শীর্ষক বক্তৃতানুষ্ঠানে অধ্যাপক সেন ইএসএ-এর রোসেটা মিশন সহ বিভিন্ন আন্তর্জাতিক ধূমকেতু অন্বেষণ কর্মসূচির উদ্দেশ্য ও সাফল্য নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন এবং সৌরজগতের আদিম উপাদান হিসেবে ধূমকেতু অধ্যয়নের তাৎপর্য ব্যাখ্যা করেন। তিনি গ্রহ ও আন্তঃগ্রহ অভিযানে ভারতের ক্রমবর্ধমান সক্ষমতার কথাও তুলে ধরেন এবং ছাত্রছাত্রীদের এই ক্ষেত্রে দেশের ভবিষ্যৎ অবদান নিয়ে ভাবতে অনুপ্রাণিত করেন।

অনুষ্ঠানের উদ্বোধন করেন পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস। স্বাগত ভাষণে তিনি গরুর গাড়িতে করে উপগ্রহ বহন থেকে শুরু করে উপগ্রহ উৎক্ষেপণে বিশ্বসেরা হয়ে ওঠার ইসরোর অসাধারণ যাত্রার কথা তুলে ধরেন। এই অনুষ্ঠানে অধ্যাপক সেনকে সংবর্ধনা জানানো হয়।

অনুষ্ঠানে অন্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন অধ্যাপক বিআই শর্মা, ড. উৎপল সরকার, ড. স্বর্ণদীপ বিশ্বাস, ড. বিধান মহন্ত সহ গবেষক ও ছাত্রছাত্রীরা। শেষে ধন্যবাদ সূচক বক্তব্য রাখেন অধ্যাপক অত্রি দেশমুখ্য। অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনা করেন গবেষক ডেইটি বসুমাতারি। প্রসঙ্গত, প্রতি বছর ১২ থেকে ১৮ আগস্ট পালিত হওয়া ভারত মহাকাশ সপ্তাহের লক্ষ্য হল ছাত্রছাত্রী ও সাধারণ নাগরিকদের মধ্যে বৈজ্ঞানিক মানসিকতার প্রচার, উদ্ভাবনী শক্তির বিকাশ ও মহাকাশ বিজ্ঞান সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি করা।

Way2barak, August 18 : As part of India Space Week 2025, the Department of Physics, Assam University, Silchar, organized a special lecture session on space science in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, founder of ISRO. India Space Week, observed annually from August 12 to 18, is aimed at promoting scientific temper, fostering innovation, and creating awareness about space science among students and citizens.

Prof. Asoke Kumar Sen, Senior Professor of the Department and a renowned astronomer, delivered an insightful lecture on “Space Missions to Comets” at the Meghnad Saha Conference Room. In his talk, Prof. Sen discussed the objectives and achievements of international comet exploration programs, including ESA’s Rosetta mission, and explained the significance of studying comets as primitive building blocks of the solar system. He also highlighted India’s growing capabilities in planetary and interplanetary missions, inspiring students to think about the country’s future contributions in this field.

The session was inaugurated with a welcome address by Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, Head of the Department of Physics, who highlighted ISRO’s remarkable journey from carrying satellites on bullock carts to achieving global excellence in satellite launches. Prof. Sen was felicitated on the occasion.

The event was attended by faculty members including Prof. B. I. Sharma, Dr. Utpal Sarkar, Dr. Swarnadeep Biswas, Dr. Bidhan Mohanta, along with around 20 PhD scholars and 50 M.Sc. students. Prof. Atri Deshamukhya proposed the vote of thanks, and the programme was hosted by research scholar Miss Deity Basumatary.
