HPC Revival Committee participates in 12-hour Bharat Bandh
January 08: Ten central trade unions INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC along with various sectoral independent federations and associations observed a nationwide strike on 8 January, 2020 to protest against the government’s “anti-people” policies. The impact of the Bharat bandh was felt in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of the country.
The impact of the 12-hour Bharat Bandh convened by a number of labour, employees and farmers organization received mixed response in Cachar and Karimganj, whereas the impact was more in Hailakandi.
HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee also supported the 12-hour bandh and participated actively to make it successful. Speaking to media, Sanjeev Roy, Convenor of HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee said, “We condemn and oppose the anti-people policies of the Modi Government and stand united for the revival of the two HPC paper mills of Assam.” He further urged upon the government to wake up from the deep slumber and help survive the paper mill employees and their dependents.”
Also present during the protest demonstration were Manabendra Chakraborty, Chief Convener of HPC Paper Mill Revival Action Committee, Baharul Islam Barbhuiya among others.
