July 25: With the evolving situation, Government of Assam has decided to reduce the home quarantine period after discharge from hospital to 7 days. As such, the state government will henceforth not provide essential items worth Rs 2000 except to the families living under BPL, elderly people, ailing and to Divyangjan.
In a notification issued by Samir K Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Health & Family Welfare Department on 24 July, it was stated that the Government of Assam has taken a series of steps to support the people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among many things, the State Government has taken note of the difficulties that a household in quarantine faces and has therefore provided essential items worth Rs 2000 each to more than 1.12 Lakh families across the state so far. However, with the evolving situation and with new findings about the COVID-19 disease, the Health & Family Welfare Department has decided to reduce the number of days of period of home quarantine from 14 days to 7 days.
Further, in partial modification of earlier orders, the Government in Health & Family Welfare Department has decided that the essential items worth Rs 2000 for quarantined families will henceforth be provided to only to families of the Below Poverty Line Category. However, Deputy Commissioners are authorized to extend this benefit to other families too like elderly, ailing, divyang etc., if deemed, necessary to mitigate hardship.
