Himanta is a professional singer, says Tarun Gogoi

December 22: Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi came out sharply at State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his second in command, Himanta Biswa Sarma. Addressing a press meet at Guwahati, Tarun Gogoi said that the BJP was mostly made up of people who had no ideology as the majority of the leaders had earlier belonged to other parties and had believed in other ideologies.

As regards BJP Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Gogoi said that, initially an AASU leader, he later joined the AGP and then jumped on the boat to join the BJP. He further said that Sonowal was once the harbinger of nationalism and fought against the illegal migrants, but now he is lending his support in favour of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016. The former CM regarded this shift of allegiance to uphold the shift in the ideological stand of Sonowal.

Commenting on Himanta Biswa Sarma, Tarun Gogoi said that he was a professional singer who could sing the tune of any party as and when it suited him. He accused the incumbent government of playing dirty politics and said that they won’t succeed in the 2021 elections. As regards the recent strained relation between the BJP and the AGP, Gogoi said that it was nothing but a “drama for the public”.
