Himanta directs DC & SP Cachar to cancel vehicle passes from 20 April to 3 May

April 18: State Health & Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma directed Barnali Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar and Manabendra Dev Ray, Superintendent of Police, Cachar to be tough in ensuring lockdown and asked them to cancel the passes issued for movement of vehicles during the lockdown from 20 April to 3 May, 2020. The minister was on a whirlwind tour of Silchar to monitor the release of the lone COVID-19 patient who underwent treatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Saturday.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sharma received the Health Minister and Minister of State Pijush Hazarika at the Silchar Airport. On his way from Silchar Airport to SMCH, the minister noticed how vehicles were plying in the town and many people were also on the streets. Later on, the minister expressed his displeasure at this and instructed the DC and SP to to take a tough stand and cancel vehicle passes from 20 April to 3 May. This was stated in a press release issued from the Regional office of Information & Public Relations, Barak valley Zone, Assam.
