Remdesivir shouldn’t be used in patients not on oxygen support or in home settings: Govt

April 23: The Ministry of Health & family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India has issued latest clinical guidelines for the management of adult Covid-19 patients. The guidelines specified that “Remdesivir should not be used in patients who are not on oxygen support or in home settings.” Remdesivir may be used in case of patients who are within 10 days of onset of symptoms.

The clinical guidelines further stated that those above 60 years of age are in high risk for severe disease or mortality. Others who are in the risk category are: those with cardiovascular disease, hypertension and CAD; Diabetes Mellitus & other immuno- compromised states; chronic lung/ kidney/ liver disease; cerebrovascular disease and those with obesity.
