Godhra : Court upholds 9 Railway cops’ dismissal

way2barak, May 4: The Gujarat High Court observed that the train burning incident in Godhra, which triggered the 2002 Gujarat riots, could have been prevented if the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel assigned to patrol the Sabarmati Express had boarded the train as scheduled, instead of returning without reporting for duty due to the delay.

The court made these observations while upholding the dismissal of nine GRP personnel who were assigned to patrol the Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002, the day it was set ablaze near Godhra station.
