Ganasur steps in its 50th year: Golden Jubilee celebration begins with unfurling its flag on 2 Aug

Aug. 2: Renowned cultural organisation of Silchar, Ganasur has completed 49 successful years of its existence and has stepped in its 50th year. On Monday, the Golden Jubilee celebrations began formally with the unfurling of the flag of Ganasur by its President Bijoy Khan in the presence of the club members and cultural activists of the town.

It was raining incessantly in the morning on Monday. However, rain could hardly dampen the love for culture. Though due to the outbreak of Covid-19, Ganasur had cut to size their actual plan and programme, but even in a miniature way, they left no stones unturned to see that the Golden Jubilee celebrations are started in a high pitch. The entire inaugural ceremony was streamed lived in the Facebook Page of Ganasur.

“Established on 2 August, 1972, Ganasur has successfully emerged as an icon of preserving and showcasing the cultural traits of Barak Valley. Regarded as a pioneer in the field of dramatics in the valley, Ganasur has carved a niche for itself by performing in All India drama competition in Lucknow and has also staged many dramas in Bangladesh apart from their performances in several areas of North East India. With 49 proud years behind, Ganasur we have now stepped in our golden jubilee year. We have lots of plans for the golden Jubilee year and by dint of your cooperation, we hope to accomplish our dreams. Today, I am confident that Ganasur will also celebrate its diamond jubilee in the future with equal enthusiasm, though many of us may not be alive to witness it in person,” said Bijoy Khan after hoisting the flag of their prestigious cultural organisation.

This was followed by a small felicitation ceremony in the club premises. Those who were associated with Ganasur since its very inception were accorded a warm felicitation. During the day, Ganasur honoured its founder members- Pradip Das (the 1st Treasurer), Ashish Bhowmik, Goura Chand Roy, Jayanta Das, Rathindra Narayan Biswas and Rameshwar Bhattacharjee.

During the day, President of Silchar DSA Babul Hore and General Secretary Bijendra Singh presented a memento to Ganasur which was received by the President and Secretary of the Club. Further, DSA authorities also handed over to Ganasur a cheque of Rs. 20,000 to further their cultural activities.

Also present during the occasion were former Silchar MP Sushmita Dev. In her speech, Ms Dev showered lavish praises on the cultural activities of Ganasur since its very inception. She recalled those days when her late father Santosh Mohan Dev shared an intimate relation with the cultural organisations of Silchar. She assured to stand besides Ganasur as and when needed. The entire programme was compered by Subrata Roy (Sambhu). The vote of thanks was delivered by the Secretary of Ganasur, Raj Kumar Roy.

Earlier, the members of ‘Ganasur’ along with the well wishers of the locality were seen painting ‘Rangoli’ on the street near their club premises. The festive look of the club premises appeared like a bridal attire. Secretary of Ganasur, Raj Kumar Roy along with his team were seen to be active in social media, where they were disseminating information in various social media platforms like Facebook Page and WhatsApp groups about the various activities they would be undertaking. On Monday evening at 7.30 PM, a virtual programme entitled “Panchaser Prarombho” was also organised in Facebook Live in the official page of Ganasur Sanskritik Sangstha. Eminent artists from multiple fields participated in this virtual live programme. The programme was compared by eminent dramatist Subrata Roy (Sambhu).

“The love for cultural activities is the binding force behind the formation of Ganasur and it is this same spirit that has enabled us to sail through sun and shower for 49 long years. Our seniors are legends in the field of dramatics. It’s not possible for us to fit in their shoes, but they are always there behind us as friend, philosopher and guide to carry forward the cultural tradition,” Bibhash Roy, former Secretary of Ganasur expressed this while interacting with way2barak during the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony.
