DC Karimganj rubbishes claims made in social media about Sonbeel as baseless

July 13: A news became viral in social media since the last few days regarding the the only fish supply and production center in Karimganj district at Sonbeel. It was circulated in social media that dead domestic animals were thrown in Sonbeel. The social media message also stated that fishes in Sonbeel were feeding on the dead animals thrown there and so urged upon the people not to eat fish caught from Sonbeel. This had a negative impact and people stopped buying fish caught from Sonbeel.

On Sunday, Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj, Anbamuthan MP set out to clear the air out of the claims made in social media. The Deputy Commissioner visited and inspected the whole Sonbeel area. Later on, airing his views in the official Facebook page of DC Karimganj, it was stated that the claims made in social media regarding Sonbeel is entirely false and baseless. The Deputy Commissioner also advised the public not to listen to these rumors.
