Five Bengalis shot dead by militants, ULFA(I) suspected

১ নভেম্বর: তিনসুকিয়ায় জঙ্গি আক্রমণে ৫ বঙ্গভাষী প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন। ধলা–র খেরবাড়ি এলাকায় এক দাবায় লুডু খেলছিলেন তাঁরা। জঙ্গিরা এসে সেখান থেকে পাশের নদীতীরে নিয়ে যায় তাদের। পাশাপাশি দাঁড় করিয়ে খুব কাছে থেকে গুলি চালিয়ে সবাইকে হত্যা করে। ঘটনা রাত সাড়ে সাতটা নাগাদ। নিহতদের অনন্ত বিশ্বাস, অবিনাশ বিশ্বাস, শ্যামল বিশ্বাস, সুবল দাস ও ধনঞ্জয় নমঃশূদ্র বলে শনাক্ত করা হয়েছে। তাঁদের মধ্যে প্রথম তিনজন একই পরিবারের সদস্য। নিহতদের সংখ্যা আরও বাড়তে পারে। কারণ গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে হাসপাতালে চিকিতসাধীন ২ জনের অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী সর্বানন্দ সোনোয়াল এই হত্যাকাণ্ডের তীব্র নিন্দা জানিয়েছেন। পুলিশের শীর্ষ কর্তাদের দ্রুত ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন। রাজ্যের অন্যান্য জেলার ডিসি-এসপিদেরও সতর্ক থাকতে বলেছেন তিনি।

তাঁর নির্দেশ পেয়েই ঘটনাস্থলের উদ্দেশে রওয়ানা হয়েছেন ডিজিপি কুলধর শইকিয়া ও এডিজিপি মুকেশ আগরওয়াল। মন্ত্রী কেশব মহন্ত ও তপন গগৈও তিনসুকিয়া যাচ্ছেন। রাজ্য সরকার নিহতদের প্রত্যেকের নিকটাত্মীয়কে ২০ লক্ষ টাকা প্রদানের কথা ঘোষণা করেছে।

আলফা (স্বাধীন) হত্যাকাণ্ডের দায় স্বীকার না করলেও এই ঘটনার জন্য তাদেরই সন্দেহ করা হচ্ছে। কারণ বেশ কিছুদিন ধরেই আলফা (স্বাধীন) বাঙালিদের হত্যার হুমকি দিচ্ছিল। এই ঘটনায় অসমের পরিস্থিতি ফের অশান্ত হওয়ার আশঙ্কা দেখা দিয়েছে। বেঙ্গলি ইয়ুথ ফেডারেশন শুক্রবার ২৪ ঘণ্টার তিনসুকিয়া বনধের ডাক দিয়েছে।

পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় এই ঘটনার নিন্দা জানিয়েছেন। তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস কলকাতা, শিলিগুড়ি সহ বিভিন্ন স্থানে এ নিয়ে মিছিল-মিটিং করবে বলে তিনি জানিয়ে দিয়েছেন। ৫ বাঙালি হত্যার নিন্দা জানিয়েছেন কেন্দ্রীয় স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী রাজনাথ সিংও। তিনি কড়া হাতে পরিস্থিতি মোকাবিলার জন্য মুখ্যমন্ত্রী সোনোয়ালকে নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন। রাজ্যের অর্থ-স্বাস্থ্য-পূর্ত মন্ত্রী হিমন্ত বিশ্বশর্মা বলেন, এ বড় মর্মান্তিক।

শিলচরও হত্যাকাণ্ডের নিন্দায় মুখর। শুক্রবার বিকেল ৪টায় ক্ষুদিরাম মূর্তির পাদদেশে এক প্রতিবাদী সভার আহ্বান করা হয়েছে। নেলেক শুক্রবার ভোর ছয়টায় রেলস্টেশনে বর্তমানে উদ্ভুত পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে আলোচনার জন্য এক সভা ডেকেছে। নাগরিকত্ব বিল নিয়ে বঙ্গভাষীদের নিয়মিত হুমকি দিয়ে দিলেও তিনসুকিয়ার হত্যাকাণ্ডের নিন্দা করেছেন কৃষক মুক্তি সংগ্রাম সমিতির নেতা অখিল গগৈ। তাঁর কথায়, আলফা স্বাধীন এই কাজ করলে মোটেও উচিত হয়নি। তাতে সরকারের হাত শক্তিশালী হল। আলফা করে থাকলে তাদের ক্ষমা চাওয়া উচিত।

November 1: In a shocking incident, 5 persons (all of whom were Bengalis) were brutally killed by militants. The incident took place at Dhola’s Kherbari area of Tinsukia. It has been learnt that the victims were playing the game of ludo besides  a dhaba when a group of people in military outfit took them by the riverside and later started shooting at them from point blank range.

The victims have been identified as Ananta Biswas, Abhinash Biswas Shyamlal Biswas, Subol Das and Dhananjay Namasudra. A source has revealed just now that the death toll may increase.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has condemned the incident and has directed all top police officials to reach the spot. According to reports, the incident has been suspected to be carried out by ULFA although there are no clear proofs of it. This suspicion is mainly based on the constant threat received by the Bengalis from ULFA(I) leaders.

Around 2 of them injured in this attack have been rushed to Tinsukia hospital. CM Sonowal has directed DGP Kuladhar Saikia, ADGP Mukesh Agarwal, Ministers Keshab Mahanta and Tapan Gogoi to rush to the spot. The incident took place today (Thursday) after 7.30 PM.

Panic has spread in the entire area. The CM has directed strict action against those involved in this brutal massacre. It has been learnt that the police has based their initial suspect on ULFA(I). Eye witnesses have revealed that the miscreants covered their face. They said that hearing the sound of bullets people first thought that someone was bursting fire crackers. They have further alleged that the local police station could not be reached as the mobile of the police officer was switched off.

In the meantime, Police, military and other special agencies have started their investigation. State government has declared that an amount of Rs.20 lakh will be paid to the families of the deceased. As per information received just now, people in a nearby village has also reported to have heard the sounds of fresh firings. This information needs further clarification from the police.

Bengali Youth Federation has given a call for 24-hour Tinsukia bandh from 5 AM on Friday. At Silchar too, a protest demonstration has been called by the civil society of Silchar at 4 PM on Friday. All conscious citizens have been appealed to attend this protest demonstration near the Khudiram statue.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also crticised the ruthless way in which 5 Bengalis have been killed in Assam and sought strict action against the perpetrators of terror.

Union Home Minister in a tweet regarded this incident as “a reprehensible act of mindless violence.” He also has directed the Assam CM to take strict action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

This incident has really put the Bengali community of Assam in great peril. The timing of the incident has been a major source of discussion in social media. Many have aired the view that as the Supreme Court has rejected the plea of Prateek Hajela on Thursday and has again allowed all 15 documents to be valid for filing claims, so as a mark of frustration this massacre was carried on by the ULFA terrorists. Meanwhile, police is looking into all possible angles of the issue and are also not ruling out the involvement of ULFA (I) in this brutal assassination.
