Fare of vehicles used for election purposes less, Chakka Bandh on April 8 and 9

April 5: The All Assam Public Bus Coordination Committee has decided to hold a chakka bandh (wheel strike) on April 8 and 9 throughout the state. The ‘bandh’ has been called as the Government has not heeded the body’s demands to increase the rent of the vehicles used for election purposes. Further, they have demanded that the salaries of the employees be raised.

The Coordination Committee has expressed the view that the commission has fixed the rate of hire of buses based on the 2012 tariff, which is not acceptable. Further, some district election offices of Assam are yet to clear payments for using private buses during the last panchayat election.
