Existing old Apron at Silchar Airport modified for aircraft parking; to be operational from 16 Aug
Aug. 12: It’s another feather in the cap of Silchar Airport. The Airport is undergoing various changes in the recent years. The existing old Apron (Phase-I) at SilcharAirport has been modified to concrete surface with new Taxi light, Apron edge light & associated facilities. The upgraded Apron is ready in all respect for Aircraft parking & operations will begin from 17 August, 2021. This was informed by the officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Thursday.

Earlier, in the month of January, 2021, Silchar Airport got a facelift with a new canopy outside the Departure Lounge. This canopy was inaugurated by the Airport Director. Vehicles can now drop the passengers inside the canopy & proceed towards the vehicle parking or City without hindering traffic movement.
Apart from this, the Terminal Building Expansion & Modernisation work at Silchar Airport is under rapid progress. The new Check-in area with 08 counters & 02 self check-in Kiosk has also been made operational. In a social media post, Silchar Airport authority wrote, “We are upgrading and adding amenities for the convenience of the passengers.”
Silchar Airport is a Civil Enclave, built during the World War II. The ATC Service is being provide by the Indian Air Force. The airport is situated on the foothills of the beautiful Barail Hill range. Silchar Airport is the 2nd busiest airport (50 civilian flights/week) in Assam and 4th busiest in North east after Guwahati, Agartala and Imphal and handles approximately 200,000 PAX yearly.
