State Programme on Swachhata Hi Seva 2019 launched at Silchar

September 12: The state programme of Swachhata Hi Seva 2019 was launched by PHE Minister Rihon Daimari in presence of Mission Director, Swachha Bharat Mission (Gramin), Assam, Dr. Siddharth Singh, Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, MLA Amarchand Jain and others on Thursday at Banga Bhawan, Silchar.

A pledge in this regard was taken by all to keep one’s own surrounding clean. The objective of the campaign under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is to mobilise people to contribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a Clean India. The Modi-led government has pledged to eliminate single-use-plastics by 2022. On 2 October, 2019, the government is likely to announce a ban on single-use plastic products.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that his government is committed to developing environment-friendly substitutes. He has also appealed the corporate sector to help phase out single-use-plastics. It may be mentioned here that Cachar district administration has already issued prohibitory orders on the use, sale and purchase of the single-use plastic products.

However, both PHE minister Rihon Daimari and Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy expressed their displeasure at the launching event of Swachhata Hi Seva 2019 at Silchar on the ground that many of the chairs in the Banga Bhawan auditorium remained empty where the programme was held.
