Donald Trump takes oath as US President

way2barak January 21: Donald Trump hailed the dawn of a “golden age” for the United States as he was sworn in as the country’s 47th President on Monday.
“The golden age of America begins right now. From this day forward our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world,” he said.
Mr. Trump was sworn in as the 47th president, promising a “revolution of common sense” and taking charge as Republicans assume unified control of Washington and set out to reshape the country’s institutions.
At the Capitol, Vice President J.D. Vance was sworn-in first, taking the oath read by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh on a bible given to him by his great-grandmother. Mr. Trump followed moments after noon, using both a family bible and the one used by President Abraham Lincoln at his 1861 inauguration as Chief Justice John Roberts administered his oath.
A cadre of billionaires and tech titans — including Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai — were given prominent positions in the Capitol Rotunda. Also there was Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, who is expected to lead an effort to slash spending and federal employees.
All living former presidents — Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama — attended the function, as did their wives, except for Michelle Obama.
Argentina’s President, Javier Milei, a strong supporter of Trump, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also attended the oath ceremony. Chinese President Xi Jinping is not attending, despite an invitation, but is sending a senior envoy.
After being elected as the 47th President of the United States Donald Trump filled the key posts in his second administration, putting an emphasis so far on aides and allies who were his strongest backers during the 2024 campaign.
Fresh off President Donald Trump’s inauguration, the Senate on Monday (January 20, 2025) passed a bill that would require federal authorities to detain migrants accused of theft and violent crimes, the first measure he likely will sign into law and giving more weight to his plans to deport millions of migrants.
“We don’t want criminals coming into our country,” Mr. Trump told supporters at the Capitol, adding he looked forward to holding a bill signing “within a week or so.”
The US Senate unanimously approved Marco Rubio as secretary of state, putting the fellow senator popular with his peers in the frontline of President Donald Trump’s often confrontational diplomacy.
Mr. Rubio, who is the first Hispanic and first fluent Spanish speaker to assume the position of top U.S. diplomat, is Trump’s first Cabinet nominee to be confirmed by the Senate.
