Dispur issues Fani alert, SDRF teams placed in 40 locations, Emergency Toll-Free No 1077
May 3: The Government of Assam has written to all district heads of the state to be alert during the cyclonic storm Fani, which is expected to hit Assam and other northeastern states from the morning of May 4 to the evening of May 5, 2019.
To cope up with any untoward situation, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel were placed in 40 strategic locations of the state and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been reached for pre-position in six locations i.e., Cachar, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Jorhat districts. The NDRF Battalion is already stationed in Dhemaji and Patgaon of Guwahati.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Goalpara,Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Kamrup (R), Barak Valley & Udalguri with isolated extremely heavy falls over South Salmara Mankachar & Baksa districts. There will be strong wind accompanying heavy shower. Meanwhile, Assam and some other parts of the northeatern states are witnessing light to moderate rains since Friday morning.
Around 23 to and fro flights from the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, Guwahati has been cancelled as the “extremely severe” cyclonic Fani made its landfall in the state of Odisha with speed of 175 kmph coupled with wind and heavy rainfall in vast areas. Out of the 23 flights, nine of them were scheduled to arrive at Guwahati and 14 flights were scheduled to depart from the airport.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has put in high alert in the district Control Rooms with Toll-Free No 1077 and State Control Room with Toll-Free Nos 1070 and 1079 with round the clock operations.
