Delegation led by guardian minister meets family of deceased constables, give cheques of ₹50 lakh each
July 29: Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal, Minister for Fisheries, Excise, Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya, MP Silchar, Dr Rajdeep Roy along with MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakrabarty, MLA Lakhipur, Koushik Rai and Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Keerthi Jalli visited the residents of Lailapur who were severely affected by the incident that took place on Monday.
The delegation also took stock of the situation, held talks with DIG of the Central Reserve Police Force which has been deployed along the Assam-Mizoram inter-state border and inquired about the present status of the security.
Later, Minister Singhal and Minister Suklabaidya along with MLA, Chakrabarty, MLA Rai and DC, Keerthi Jalli also visited Punimukh under Palongghat GP and Kathal and met the families of deceased constables, Manjurul Haque Barbhuiya and Shyamsundar Dusat of 6th AP Bn and handed over the cheques amounting to Rs.50 lakhs each.
During the day, the delegation led by guardian Minister also visited Lailapur along Assam-Mizoram border on Thursday. Addressing the gathering of the local people there, the guardian minister said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs had ordered CRPF to be deployed. We have given our post to CRPF but Mizoram Government did not remove its forces from the post, which is sad. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the dispute can be resolved through talks. It feels like the Mizo people wish to settle the dispute via arms and ammunition. If it is so, this approach itself is wrong. Also, six jawans of Assam Police were martyred during the clash while Mizoram personnel continued to fire LMG (light machine guns) at the disputed site. Peace and harmony between the two states is yet to be attained. We will not let an inch of our land to move out to Mizoram.”
On being asked if the government is willing to launch any economic blockade, Singhal said the government is not in favour of it. Appealing to the masses, the Guardian Minister said that whatever is required for safeguarding the border residents, the government will do its best and there is no need to panic.
