Crackdown on unauthorized parking and encroachments along Silchar bypass

way2barak, June 1: In a decisive move to enhance road safety and streamline traffic along the Silchar Bypass, the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), Sribhumi NH Division, has issued a firm directive targeting unauthorized vehicle parking and illegal encroachments on the Right of Way (ROW) of National Highway 37. The directive has been promulgated by Er Abdul Haque Khan, Executive Engineer of the division, under the powers vested by Sections 24, 26, and 37 of the Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002.
According to the order, it has been observed that numerous unauthorized vehicles have been persistently parked along various stretches of the Silchar Bypass. Compounding the problem are several instances of illegal occupation at multiple points along the highway, both of which are direct violations of the relevant provisions of the National Highway Act. These unauthorized activities are not merely administrative oversights but pose significant threats to road users, increasing the risk of accidents and transforming these areas into potential “Blackspots” zones notorious for frequent and often fatal accidents.
Highlighting the gravity of the issue, Executive Enginner , Sribhumi PWD ,N.H division Er.A.K Khan emphasized that such negligence cannot be overlooked, especially when public safety is at stake. Unauthorized parking and encroachment disrupt the smooth flow of traffic and severely compromise the safe functioning of this crucial national highway artery.
Taking cognizance of these developments, the Executive Engineer has categorically prohibited any form of unauthorized parking or occupation within the ROW of the Silchar Bypass. Only government-designated zones will henceforth be permitted for such activities. The order serves as a strict warning to violators and a clarion call for immediate corrective action.
This administrative intervention marks a significant step toward ensuring a safer, more efficient, and regulation-compliant transportation network in the region. The PWD has reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the law and safeguard public well-being by curbing such hazardous practices on national highways.
This is stated in a press release issued from Regional office of Information & Public Relations Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam.
