Breaking: Mini Secretariat in Silchar to start with 6 departments: Assam Cabinet

Feb. 10: The long standing issue of starting a mini secretariat in Silchar of Barak Valley finally got the nod from Assam Cabinet on 10 February. The cabinet gave its approval to start the Mini Secretariat in Silchar with 6 departments. These six departments are: Personnel, Revenue and Disaster Management, General Administration Department, Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal presided over the meeting of cabinet ministers held at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday.

Many other important decisions were taken in the Cabinet Meeting, which includes:

  • Approval in the amendment of Integrated Sports Policy to appoint medalists as officers in Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games (First Class) and Senior World Championships (Second Class). Hima Das will be appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police.
  • With an aim to provide relief to consumers, the cabinet decided to provide free electricity up to 30 units per month to all consumer across the state.
  • The cabinet approved the establishment of Bodoland and 6th Schedule Areas Administrative Staff College.
  • The cabinet approved the extension of service benefits to 1,653 employees of Municipal Boards. From now on they will be considered as contracted employees under urban development department.
  • Approval for allocation of land to various government organizations and organizations including Guwahati Press Club, Karunadhara, Jatiya Swahid Pariyal Samannaya Rakhi Parishad, and Assam Anuchusit Jati Safai Karmachari Parishad.
  • Approval for the establishment of new campus of Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra in Dibrugarh.
  • Decision to name the state government’s construction department as the public construction department.
  • Recognition given in energy conservation policies for the state. All commercial buildings must follow these rules and regulations
  • Approval given to state cyber security policy
  • The cabinet approved the establishment of Bodoland and 6th Schedule Areas Administrative Staff College.
  • The cabinet approved the renaming of the Hills Areas Department as Assam Sixth Schedule Council Department.
