Covid vaccination for age group of 15 to 18 years to start in 3 schools of Silchar town from 3 Jan
Jan. 1: Department of Health and Family Welfare, Cachar District will start vaccination of children of age group 15-18 years with Covaxin from 3 January, 2022. This was stated by Rajib Roy, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Cachar and incharge Deputy Commissioner during a press briefing held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday.
Roy urged the public to come forward to complete their vaccination by taking the second dose so that people remain immunised from further waves of COVID. He also requested the parents and guardians of eligible children in the age group of 15 to 18 years to come forward to make this drive successful.
In his address, Dr. Ashutosh Barman, Joint Director of Health Services informed that the booster dose for front line workers, health care workers and the the persons who have attained 60 years with comorbidities will be started from 10 January onwards. It was further informed that there are a total of 168 government schools in Cachar district. The data of the total number of students school-wise has also been collected by he district health department. A detailed plan for Covid vaccination session in the schools will be released soon by the health department. Initially, 3 schools within Silchar town were identified for conducting the vaccination sessions. These 3 schools are Narsing HS School, Govt Boys HS School and DNNK School.
Earlier, Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert informed that as per the progressive population based on census, Cachar has a target of 1,13,130. Initially, the children of the Government high school and Higher secondary schools will be targeted. Those who were born in 2007 or before are eligible for vaccination. In later phase, the students studying in private schools will also be administered the vaccine dose.
Dr. P. K. Roy, Additional Chief Medical officer (Family welfare), Dr. Sumona Naiding, District Immunization Officer, Dr. Arun Deb Nath, incharge, Vaccination, Rahul Ghose, District programme Manager, National Health Mission were also present in the meeting.
