COVID-19 patient discharged from SMCH in presence of Himanta, 12 cured in Assam
April 18: After recovery and subsequent discharge of two COVID-19 patients from MMCH, Guwahati on Saturday morning, 1 more corona positive patient was discharged from Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) in the afternoon in presence of State Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The minister greeted the recovered patient from Cachar with a basket of fruits. The man was now sent to 14 days home quarantine.
The patient who was discharged from SMCH was the lone COVID-19 case from the district of Cachar. He was discharged on Saturday after 3 successive tests of him were reported as negative. The health minister was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of State Pijush Hazarika, MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MLA Rajdeep Goala, Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar, MLA Dilip Kumar Paul, Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sharma and other high officials including the Principal of SMCH.

Taking to his twitter handle, state Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “One more #COVID patient – Sajibur Rahman is discharged from Silchar Medical College & Hospital after 3 successive tests reported as negative. He is being sent for home quarantine. Total cured patients – 12.”
Earlier, on 15 April 2 persons were discharged from Sonapur Civil Hospital . Three COVID-19 patients were released from Goalpara Civil Hospital on 16 April. On 17 April, 4 persons were discharged from Golaghat Civil Hospital. Further on 18 April, another 2 persons were discharged from MMCH, Guwahati.
As of now, a total of 34 persons were tested coronavirus positive in Assam. Out of the 34 cases, 12 patients have recovered and were discharged and 1 patient died. At present, 21 patients are undergoing treatment in Assam.
The 57-year old person who got infected with COVID-19 is a resident of Ranighat in Cachar district. He returned from Nizamuddin Markaz on 19 March, 2020. The man was reportedly brought to by district health authority to SMCH on 2 April. After screening, he was quarantined over there. His swab test was done. On the basis of the report, the man, a retired BSF jawan was declared COVID-19 positive on 4 April. He retired from BSF in 2007.
