Copy of Constitution torn by PDP MPs to protest scrapping of Article 370, droven out of Rajya Sabha
August 5: Two Members of Parliament MM Fayaz and Nazir Ahmed, belonging to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) tore a copy of the Constitution of India in the Rajya Sabha to protest the move of Home Minister Amit Shah as regards scrapping of Article 370.
Article 370 grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The scrapping of this Article 370 has also got the approval of the President.
After the act of tearing apart the Constitution, the two PDP MPs were asked by the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to leave the House. MP Fayaz apart from tearing the Constitution also tore his own kurta as a sign of protest.
Meanwhile, while addressing the Rajya Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah stressed on the necessity of scrapping Article 370 immediately without wasting a single second.
The Centre on 5 August, revoked Article 370, which confers special status to Jammu & Kashmir, through a Presidential Order. Home Minister Amit Shah also moved a Bill to bifurcate the state into two union territories – Jammu Kashmir as one and Ladakh as the other.
