Construction of Medical College in Karimganj likely to start in Oct-Nov: Himanta Biswa

August 20: If land could be managed, then the construction work for a Medical College in Karimganj will be started by October- November, 2020. This was announced by State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma while speaking to newsmen in Guwahati on Thursday. Infact, the minister during the day went for ‘ceremonial distribution of Appointment Letters to 201 Staff Nurses of Lakhimpur Medical College & Rural Serve Appointment for 157 doctors, at GMCH auditorium.’

Later on, while interacting with the media, the minister said, “I had assured the people of Lakhimpur about the building of Lakhimpur Medical College. The construction work is 95 percent complete. I have the plan to start the Lakhimpur Medical College by 15-30 November, 2020. Today I have given appointment to 200 plus nurses of this new Medical College. The process of appointment of doctors has also started. If everything goes on as per our plan, then this Medical College will start its journey from the month of November. In our tenure, we are successful in completing the Diphu and Lakhimpur Medical Colleges.”

The minister further said, “The work for constructing new Medical Colleges at Dhubri, Tinsukia, Nagaon and Nalbari is going on in full swing. In the months of October to November, we will start construction of 3 more Medical Colleges in the state. These 3 new Medical Colleges will be built at Biswanath Chariali, Goalpara and Charaideo.” He also said, “In the meantime, if I am able to get land, then the work for construction of Medical College in Karimganj will also start during this time (October to November).

He also announced that the academic courses of the newly established AIIMS Chansari (Guwahati) will start from 1 November, 2020. However, the treatment facilities will start from the next year. During the day, the minister also gave appointment letters to 150 MBBS doctors for rural posting and for COVID duty.
