Confusion about PB! DC Cachar urges not to spread ‘false news’

April 8: There have been some confusing reports by the media as regards issue of Postal Ballots (PB) twice to the same voter. However, after proper investigation, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli clarified, “A teacher of a government LP School, Smt. Sumitra Das, who is a resident of Vivekananda Road, Silchar applied for Postal Ballot. On enquiry, it was revealed that the postman delivered the Postal Ballot to another Sumitra Das, a private tuition teacher, who also lives in Vivekananda Road.

Saying so, the Deputy Commissioner further stated, “This is what has come to surface after our thorough investigation. It is my earnest request to media houses not to sensationalise fake news and atleast let the administration to enquire into any allegation before publishing it.”

With regards to issuance of Postal Ballot post- poll, it was informed that, whoever has given Form 12 before finalisation of marked copy are allowed to cast their vote through PB and these will be received until 2 May, 2021. NATRIP also had PB casting corner. Those who have been left from voting through PB are now being sent the same through post. It was informed that this process is as per existing rules. This was stated in a press release issued from DDIPR Office, Silchar.
